Researching Herbs on the Web

Researching online is fun and can be time absorbing <grin>.

There are many search engines to use; I prefer Google. Uuse the one that is most comfortable to you.  Don't forget to create a folder on your favorites list for your findings.

Herb specific sites are great places to start. You can choose among Herbal encyclopedias (aka Materia Medica(s)), specific herbalists, herbal schools, etc. Once you get started on the Web your lists of informative sites may becomes endless!

Example:  Let's say you are interested in Ayurveda and learn there is a 'father' of Ayurveda;  Dhanvantari.

  • Search Dhanvantari and find many photos of statues and paintings. He holds an herb. You want to know about that herb. Go back to search results.
  • Find another site that mentions the Medicine Buddha. Wow! Could they be the same? (Note to self research later)
  • Search Medicine Buddha and find that he too holds an herb and the herb is named. Whew!
  • Search the herb myrobalan and get some really varied results.
  • Find that the herb is one of the main ingredients of triphala
  • Go back to list of search results and find you are only on the tip of the iceberg.
  • Search triphala.......
